Drivers Commended for Seat Belt Usage

At the September 28, 2009 Village Board Meeting, three drivers involved in separate traffic crashes were recognized for buckling up and subsequently avoiding serious injury or possibly even death.

Courtney Minner
On July 24, 2009, at approximately 10:52 PM, Courtney was involved in a serious crash on Donlea Road near Lake Cook Road. Courtney’s vehicle skidded out of control, rolled over, and then came to rest on its hood. Due to her decision to wear her seat belt, Courtney only sustained minor cuts and abrasions in the incident.

Aurora Ristau
On December 28, 2008, at approximately 10:19 AM, Aurora was involved in a serious crash on Route 68 at Lakeview Lane. After skidding out of control due to black ice, Aurora’s vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees and shrubs. Aurora suffered serious injuries in the crash; however, her life was more than likely spared due to the fact she was wearing her seat belt that day.

Cynthia Gerardi
On December 29, 2008, at approximately 7:00 AM, Cynthia was involved in a crash on Lake Cook Road east of Deepwood Road. Cynthia lost control of her vehicle due to snowy and icy conditions and slid off the roadway. Cynthia’s vehicle came to rest on its side in a ditch and her seat belt kept her safely hanging until she was provided assistance. Due to her conscious decision to wear her seat belt, Cynthia avoided great bodily harm and possibly death in this incident.
