Accreditation Award
August 17, 2010
Barrington Hills Village President Robert Abboud recently traveled with Chief Michael Murphy and Community Service Officer William Walsh, the Department’s Accreditation Manager, to receive the Police Department’s 3rd Accreditation Award, from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies [CALEA], on July 31st.
The Department underwent a favorable hearing and was reaccredited, following a successful on-site inspection in December, 2009. Every three years, agencies must reapply for accreditation, which is formal recognition that an agency has an excellent record of service and operation. Accreditation is an ongoing process rather than a triennial event. The Police Department works daily to maintain compliance with the standards. In the next two years, an annual report will be required to attest to the fact the department remains in compliance with applicable standards and is ready for the next official assessment in 2012.
Barrington Hills Police Department is the only accredited police agency in the Barrington Area Council of Governments, and was first in the McHenry County Council of Governments to achieve accreditation.
