Barrington Hills Students Head to History Fair
State Competition May 6 – 7

Two Barrington Hills' students received Superior award status at the Chicago Metro Area History Fair competition. Local resident students Ella and Grant Ekstrom and their Barrington cousins, Sarah and Megan Siebert, are among the top 5 winners who proceed to the History Fair State Competition May 6 and 7 in Springfield.
Sarah Seibert, Barrington, won the top award with her Chicago Board of Trade documentary, From Grains to Gold: Clearing the Way for a Global Market; Joey Corless, South Barrington, moves to state with his exhibit, Mosaic: Unleashing the Internet; Ella Ekstrom, Barrington Hills, won her Superior with an exhibit, Innovations: From Compass to Cell Phone; Megan Seibert, Barrington, goes to state with her documentary on a Chicago communications innovator , Static on the Line: The Story of Elijah Gray. Fifth state qualifier Grant Ekstrom, Barrington Hills, was awarded a Superior earlier for his paper, Chicago's African American Community Gives Birth to the Blues.
This year's Science and Arts Academy, SSA, history fair contingency is the most that the Academy has ever sent on to the state competition. And, according to history teacher Ron Solberg, it's most unusual to send students to state competition in Springfield, representing three different categories: documentaries, exhibits, and papers.
“We are always so proud of the accomplishments of our SSA students. From their academic triumphs to their remarkable talents, these students are truly amazing! These kids impress us all:” says Amanda Davey.
