Longmeadow Parkway Corridor - last Update April 2009

Project and Description

The Longmeadow Parkway Fox River Bridge Corridor is a proposed four-lane Fox River Bridge crossing and four-lane arterial roadway corridor with a median, approximately 5.6 miles in length, to alleviate traffic congestion in northern Kane County. The proposed road passes through portions of the Villages of Algonquin, Carpentersville and Barrington Hills, as well as unincorporated areas of Kane County. The western terminus is at Huntley Road west of Randall Road, approximately 1,300 feet northwest of the Huntley/Boyer intersection. From Huntley Road to the Fox River, the corridor primarily traverses mostly undeveloped properties or new subdivisions; these subdivisions were developed with a dedicated right-of-way to accommodate the proposed corridor. After crossing the river, the corridor parallels existing Bolz Road, to the eastern project terminus at Illinois Route 62.  Please check out the material and mail comments or call local representatives who are working on this project which will directly involve Barrington Hills.

Longmeadow Bridge Project Task Force

The Longmeadow Parkway Toll Bridge Task Force is charged with coordinating the required activities needed for the consideration of a toll bridge in order to fund the remaining engineering, land acquisition and construction costs for the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor. A public hearing was recently held regarding the toll bridge concept, the results of which were provided to the Federal Highway Administration for their review and consideration.

Should additional funding become available towards the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor through the Illinois Capital Plan and/or the next Federal Transportation Bill, these funds could be used to offset a portion of the cost associated with the construction of the corridor and may allow for the reduction of the toll rate necessary to fund the remainder of the corridor.

It remains to be seen what the final version of the Capital Bill will be that the Governor approves. One website you can use to access the General Assembly, the Governor's office, and to follow the progress of a proposed bill is: http://www.illinois.gov/government/gov_legislature.cfm.
