Commercial Horse Boarding - Village Zoning Board Issue

Last Updated: Village Newsletter Spring 2009

Zoning and Village Code issues have dominated our Village code has become outdated and unable to keep up with the scale of projects which many of our residents are currently building or proposing on their property. The large boarding stables are an example of this issue. The Village is a strong supporter of equestrian activities, including boarding, as well as the ability of residents to take full advantage of their property.

But we are also very concerned about how these projects impact the peace and tranquility, health and safety, and property values of adjacent neighbors. My (Pres. Abboud) perspective is that the answer is not to continue to create more restrictive and complex code that no one can understand. Developers and others will simply use a box full of lawyers to game the system and create havoc and division within our community.

Rather, we should take advantage of a more sophisticated code structure which makes better use of our review capacity so that we can individually look at large projects and evaluate them on their individual merits.

Pres. Abboud: Having lived here for more than 40 years I have seen threats to the village come and go. The most important thing is that we work together....we can overcome these distractions and work together productively. We must recognize that we are not just a collection of individuals, but an integrated community acknowledging each other's concerns and ideas. I encourage you to continue to communicate directly with me and the Trustees.
